About CJ the DJ

What began as a hobby when he was 12 in his brother’s bedroom with a pair of belt driven turntables & a storage box full of Jungle 12″ vinyl’s has since developed into rocking parties around the UK & Europe; setting up a studio, doing countless mixtapes, being involved in numerous radio show’s & so much more!

The true passion kicked in shortly after his first gig at 16 which led onto DJ-ing for a local pirate station. From then on, his monthly releases of mixtapes (cassette tapes / TDK’s) popularised CJ in his home town of Croydon (South-London) & got his first residency at a club called Medusa (R.I.P.).

CJ developed a taste for Production (beat making) which led him to the South Thames College in Wandsworth, which earned him a National Diploma in Music Technology. It was also here where CJ met an up & coming crew (a la So Soild, PAYG, Roll Deep). The Crew was called ‘Live Linq Sound’ & had an aspiring mc called Bashy. CJ formed a relationship with Bashy’s cousin who later called upon him to gig with Bash on a Lethal Bizzle Tour in early 2008.

Eager to work in the music biz, in 2005 CJ got his foot in the door after applying for a job at Universal Music in the facilities department. Since working at Universal Music, CJ has been requested to craft mixes for promotional campaigns in the UK for the likes of Busta Rhymes, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Wale & many more. He’s also worked closely with the Def Jam Street team setting up parties for various artists on the label across the UK & Europe.

Inspired by radio DJ’s such as Shortee Blitz, Tim Westwood, DJ Swing & Davey Diamond, CJ aspired to get his own show. In 2005 he entered a competition with his DJ comrade Bruce Wayne on the Kiss 100 ‘Pirate Sound-Clash’. Despite not winning, the following year they secured a slot on BBC 1Xtra’s ‘Xtra Talent’ for a two month stint. This further developed CJ’s hunger for his own radio show.

After the successful Lethal Bizzle tour ended in 2008, CJ was asked to continue his work with Bashy as his ‘Official’ tour DJ. This honour has taken CJ across the UK & Ireland doing shows in numerous clubs & concerts in most major cities. In 2009 CJ also donned his Wellington boots & travelled to Somerset to grace the ‘BBC Introducing’ stage at Glastonbury with Bashy.

Amid the success of Bashy, CJ was approached to DJ for Ms Dynamite for a few shows in 2009 including flying out to the UAE to perform in Dubai & Qatar.

Initially starting as a Hip Hop DMC DJ, CJ’s ears have since developed over the years to appreciate various genres of music. His sets are full of energy, emotion & passion! On any given night, a CJ Beatz set ranges from straight Hip Hop, to commercial chart, to cheesy Pop, to even 80’s Rock… But what CJ enjoys the most is when he mashes all those genres together to form one big ear-gasm of sounds & styles! With so much more to come for this young man, it sounds like CJ’s only getting started…
